Styling 2017’s most-wanted holiday fashions with the Fashion Outlets

Holiday shopping can be stressful for the best shoppers among us… but it doesn’t have to be.

For those of us with slightly destructive procrastinative tendencies (guilty) holiday shopping is quite the paradox. People start talking about it months in advance “but it’s so far away…” then next thing you know Thanksgiving has gone and passed, finals are finally finished and it’s Christmas Eve and you still haven’t bought any of your gifts. Let’s avoid that this year, agreed?

Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday are around for a reason– sales! All weekend long your favorite shops have massive storewide sales. Navigating these sales can be tricky, especially since nothing makes you want to purchase useless junk like that useless junk being 50% off.

The Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls, located about 30 minutes north of Buffalo has sales all year round. Outlet malls are generally less expensive in general because they get the overstock from their national chains. My friend Lucy of Write.Style.Travel and I partnered with the Fashion Outlets to go around to different stores and style outfits featuring our favorite pieces from each store. I shopped at Saks off 5th, Levi’s and J.Crew.

My first look is comfy + cozy, with earmuffs, an eyelash scarf, a cozy cashmere sweater, high-waisted jeans and a wool cape. For those of you who have been following my blog for a while, you probably know about my obsession with sweaters and all things cozy (really, who isn’t)? Buffalo is cold. The least we can do is treat ourselves to some comfy clothes that make the cold more bearable.

Accessories are a gift you can almost never go wrong with, for anyone. Accessories are the kind of extra item that while shopping, people tend to not buy themselves. Therefore it makes the perfect present. I personally love earmuffs because they don’t mess up my hair and they’re the one winter “hat-like” accessory I can wear with my hair up.

A cashmere sweater tried and true classic that will never go out of style. Men, women (maybe even kids if it’s colorful enough) will appreciate the soft texture of cashmere. This is another item many people don’t splurge on for themselves making it an even better gift.

My second look is a bit more dressed up and one of my favorite outfit combinations: dresses with sweaters belted at the waist. (I also style that here + here).

This look could easily transition from day to night if you take off the sweater and wear the electric blue, velvet dress with a leather jacket. The most giftable item here are these over-the-knee boots from Saks off 5th. Over-the-knee boots are a huge trend that in my opinion, is here to stay. These are the perfect structured pair for the fashionista on your gift list.

Velvet has been everywhere this season and I think it’s here to stay. Why velvet ever went out of fashion remains a mystery to me given that the lush fabric is not only soft but also luxe looking while remaining inexpensive. Velvet dresses, skirts, tops and accessories will make great gifts this holiday season.

Looking to spend your Black Friday navigating the even-better-than-normal sales at the Fashion Outlets? Here is a map. My recommendations? J.Crew, Banana Republic, Levi’s, Kate Spade and Ralph Lauren.

Happy shopping!

Love, Francesca
